Deborah has been involved in music
all of her life. Growing up, she was encouraged to play
a variety of instruments and sing. It was not until Frey
overheard Deborah playing keyboards at a local guitar
shop, that her talent was truly unmasked and brought to
the forefront. Originally playing bass lines on the keyboards;
Deborah back-lined Oceans. This allowed her to be creative
with syncopation and reggae beats. Deborah recalls the
most influential key player she ever met. “We were
playing the Fine Line in Minneapolis with Ipso Facto,
they had this thick funk bass with a reggae key, so I
had to meet up with the key player. He had been playing
keys as a recording artist for over thirty years, and
he spoke to me as if we had known one another all of our
lives. He shared techniques and secrets of the trade.
Killer!”
